Spotlight - “Mouse”
With the advent of GUI operating systems and applications, the pointing device is of valuable and important use. The mouse had come a long way since its first invention. Now, we have the traditional ball-type and optical mouse, and even wired and wireless variants. But the mouse, second only to the keyboard in terms of user input, can be a peripheral worth investing. Any why? For added convenience and functionality of course.
There are a lot of us that think “A cheap mouse will do”. But for how long can it serve its purpose? With the frequent clicks and movements, a computer mouse is prone to wear and tear. What can you consider in buying a good mouse that can last (or outlast) your computer’s technology?
1. Optical Mouse - These pointing devices are getting cheaper and cheaper. The ball mouse will soon be a thing of the past, as an optical mouse has a clear advantage - less maintenance.
2. Wired or wireless? - Frequent movement of your mouse can cause the wire to break internally. You can cut the wire and re-solder it, sure. But time will come that your wire will be too short for convenient use. A more expensive mouse can last longer with thicker wires, but if you want no tangles, and have a budget for it, you can go for wireless. One thing though, they use batteries. You should always have a spare.
In the end, it will always be the end-user’s decision. Budget may be a consideration, but what’s important is the convenience that you can get by buying the best mouse for you.
